This little baby was just born with love oozing out of every pore. It is hard not to love him and to feel better about yourself after being around him. What a gift he is in our home! When we went out to Bob Evans restaurant (yes, I had to use the spell checker to spell that word correctly) for our birthday dinner this week I got to see the magic of his loving spirit. Our server was named Denice, and she told us she was new as a server there. She was very kind and went and found the answers to every question we had with ordering. For some reason Brett really connected with her and even asked her what her name was (keep in mind he is only 2). Every time she would come to check on us his eyes would light up and he would say, "Oh Denise, you came back!" with a delighted squeal. It melted her heart. He was so talkative with her, we all just laughed about it. She ended up bringing out cookies for us and a scoop of ice cream for him. He even gave her a big hug as we left. The picture doesn't do the memory justice, but it captures the thought. He loved her. She started out a stranger and ended up a friend because he loved so simply and enthusiastically. He made her night delightful, and he made it such a fun night for all of us because of that loving enthusiasm. It's so easy to get sucked in to being protective and conditional with our love--only people I know, only if they smile first, only if they behave, only if I won't make a fool of myself, only if I'm not tired, or a million other "only ifs." I am grateful for the pure love of a child as an example of how God loves each of us and how He asks us to love one another...to become as a child.
