Setting Goals by Brenden
This is a talk that I wrote for one of my goals that I am working on.
“And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.”
If we set goals and work towards something to become better at it the Lord will help us and help those weak things become strong to us. Does anyone know how many times setting a goal was mentioned in our last general conference? Setting goals or blessing that come from following through with a goal was mentioned 9 times in our last general conference. This must mean in some way shape or form that setting goals is important. But setting the goal is not the only part, the biggest, and hardest part of a goal, is doing it and following through with your goal and not giving up on it half way through, because nothing good will ever come from it if we don’t follow through. We were challenged in our last general conference to keep ourselves worthy to go to the temple and to remain clean. This is an important goal that we all should have and so are all the other thing that they have asked us to do. But these goals are not really our goals unless we take them and try to follow by them. It is also important for us to set personal goals that may not apply to every one like the challenges that they give us in general conference. These goals need to be personal to you, so that they can better help you personally grow spiritually. Following goals that you have set for your self can bring about little changes in you, and like how Elder Ulisses Soares stated in his talk this last general conference,
“To improve each day, and look upon our course last week and do things better this week; do things better today than we did them yesterday.”11 So the first step to becoming meek is to improve day by day. Each day we need to try to be better than the previous as we move forward through this process."
Step by Step, Little by Little, this is how we improve, it doesn't all happen in one day in a magical change, it happens a little bit at a time. And we have to work for it. In Alma 37:6 it reads,
“Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise.”
This scripture tells us that through small and simple things, by improving on our goals day by day, a little better than we were the day before. We can have that magical change in our lives. We just have to work for it, with all our might, mind, and strength. Then, and only then can we experience a great change in our hearts. Some of the goals that i have set are to become more meek, to be more patient, to be more loving, to become more kind, to become more respectful. If we truly want to improve on our goals, this is a way to improve. What helps you reach your goals that you have set, and how has reaching those goals helped you in your life?
