Klondike
A week after we arrived in Ohio, I was asked to take the lead for everything concerning the Boy Scout Klondike. I offered to be one of the drivers since I'm one of the few that have a vehicle large enough to pull the scout trailer. We left Friday afternoon and were excited to actually have snow. Many of the past years have seen the scouts pulling their sleds through mud.
That night we stayed in "The Castle", a huge block castle that has several rooms for sleeping. It was a very neat place. The huge fire we had that night helped until we went to bed in 13 degree weather. A cold night led to a cold day, and with snow starting to fall, the boys got ready to run.The entire course took over 2 hours for the fastest teams to run. Our Troop had 4 teams who all did really well. Brenden and Bryce were in different teams, but raced against each other. Brenden's team ended up taking second place in their division, 5th overall. Bryce's team took 7th place in their division. The entire troop had a great time.
Scouts are an integral piece of my boys becoming men. I'm grateful for their many leaders over the past, present and future. They are some of the greatest men I know.
