Christmas Break Highlights

I don't know about everyone else, but when the schedule is thrown off I become entirely unproductive.  We had had so much fun, but has taken until now to get it downloaded and think of posting it on the blog.  So...here goes!

Christmas morning traditions...yummy breakfast with banana muffins and egg & sausage roll up...lining up in front of the sheet to run in and see the tree youngest to oldest (this is one from my childhood).

We started the art wall in the Ohio house.  For those familiar with our Herriman house art wall (bottom picture), you know how hard it was for us to leave that.  We are one step closer to making this house our home!  Brett wanted in on the painting fun.

For Christmas the kids each got their own mug made by Ben Behunin in Utah.  Todd and I already each had one, and now our family set is complete.  We use them for drinking at meals and for ice cream time.  It was probably everyone's favorite Christmas gift!

We got many new games for Christmas (Kings in the Corner, Ticket to Ride Marklin (with Alvin and Dexter), Rack-O, 77 Ways to Play Tenzie, and more.  We ended up staying up way late many nights playing games.  This was a game night that went too long, resulting in the table being in the hall and the bean bag where the table was.  Fun family memory.  You had to be there to appreciate the humor I guess!

I love Brett's new hiding place...in the middle of the coat rack.

We had a New Year's Eve party with our neighbors, the Hutton family.  We have a great time together!  We did glow stick "fireworks" in the back yard with the air cannon.  This yard is perfect for it, and it looked so amazing!  I have to admit I was squealing like a delighted little girl. We played Bingo White Elephant, Tenzie, Risk (with some sort of zombie variation?), did origami, and had ice cream sundaes.  At midnight we rang in the new year with sparkling drinks and blowers.  Happy 2014!

Brooke made a pinata and had a muffin making party with her friends.  They took some over to our neighbor Herman (a recent widower), and he was so delighted.  Todd was obviously a BIG helper in the kitchen!  I LOVE this picture of Brett.  He loves head rubs like his mama!

Since two weeks off wasn't enough, we got two extra days off this week as "calamity days" instead of going back to school.  It was so darn cold here (-33 degrees with the wind chill) that school got canceled twice.  We have never been in weather this cold.  Taking out the garbage to the curb last night was quite an adventure.  The small garage door broke because it is frozen in place and wouldn't open.  Being frozen in meant more game playing!  The kids revived Killer Bunnies and remember now why we liked it so much for so long!

It looks like school will actually start tomorrow and life can begin to get back to some kind of schedule, in theory.  I think we are all going to be zombies for the rest of the week trying to get up early for the bus when we are used to sleeping in, but thus it is.  All good things must come to an end!
