I walked into our kids' bathroom last week.  Deep sigh. You already know the scene, right?  The counter was messy.  The floor was strewn with towels. The mirror was designed with dried water drips that make me wonder how on earth they managed to splatter water or toothpaste or whatever it is that high without noticing.  But this week was different.  The sigh turned into a smile and my heart lightened.  Written with whiteboard marker on the mirror was Proverbs 3:5-6,

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He will direct thy paths."

It's the scripture one of the kids chose to "ponderize" this week, and it was a great message to me to not get overwhelmed with all of the things that aren't working yet and trust the Lord that our small improvements are leading us where we need to be going.  Instead of walking away feeling like a failure in teaching proper bathroom cleaning skills, I felt encouraged in my mothering and grateful for the messages of Conference. In the end, I would rather they know how to trust in the Lord and follow a challenge from one of their leaders than keep the mirror clean.  I still feel like I need to be a stickler about flushing and changing an empty toilet paper roll, but it was a teaching moment for me that I need to relax on some things and focus on those things that are helping them grow up to be a "sin-resistant generation."
