Fireflies, Frogs, and Waterfalls

We had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend visiting Hocking Hills in Ohio.  I didn't say "perfect" because, quite frankly, family life never works that way, but it was great!  This is our first camping trip in the trailer since we moved to Ohio, and I remember now why we love it so much--being outdoors, reading, playing games, making smores and banana boats, hiking, fishing, and just being together. We missed our friends, the Eddingtons, who we were going to camp with but who had to travel to AZ at the last minute for a family funeral (our condolences!).  That adventure together will have to wait till the 4th of July.

We started hearing about Hocking Hills before we even moved to Ohio...and every review was entirely correct--it is spectacular!  Ohio is a beautiful state, especially to this girl who grew up in the desert.  This particular area of Ohio is breathtaking.  Green, green, green.  Waterfalls, caves, streams, gorges, turtles, frogs, fish, raccoons, wildflowers, birds, wow.  Words just don't do it justice!

Happiness is being barefoot!

These are shots of our hike to Ash Cave and hanging out in the trailer on Saturday.

This place had a very sacred feel to it.

Brenden's friend "Millie" that hiked with him.

Conkles Hollow and Cedar Falls.  Breathtaking. We had fun with camping cooking this trip and even made a dutch oven pineapple upside-down cake like I remember making as a child.  It is a fun memory to pass on to the next generation.

Yup...he's tall.

How close can he get to that edge?

Old Man's Cave (in honor of Todd being 40 now!) hike on Monday.

Probably my favorite memory was of catching fireflies Sunday night.  We had never seen them before, so it was magical for us to see them flying around and hold them in our hands.  Brenden even played Owl City's "Fireflies" to celebrate!  Brinnley is not a fan of creepy crawlies, but she did some "bug therapy" that night and was so proud to hold one by herself. We camped near a pong and Bryce got to go fishing and also teach us all how to catch frogs.  Fun memories!

Sunday was our 18th wedding anniversary.  What a wonderful adventure it has been together, and we look forward to many more amazing years...hand in had forever!
